Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge out of Audi Cup final against Atletico Madrid
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out of this evening’s Audi Cup final against Atletico Madrid following his injury scare during Tuesday’s win over Bayern Munich.
The 27-year-old lasted just 20 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute at the Allianz Arena, being forced off in the closing stages of the match having picked up an injury while scoring the final goal in his side’s 3-0 victory over the German champions.
Sturridge has since played down fears that the injury could be another serious setback, but he will be left out of tonight’s match as a precaution.
“Sturridge will be treated at the club’s training base in Rottach-Egern today and the issue will continue to be monitored, although there are currently no plans for a scan to take place in Germany,” read a statement on Liverpool’s official website.
Sturridge, who has featured in all six of Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies so far this summer, has not yet been ruled out of the final warm-up game against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on Saturday.
