Lobi Stars end MFM FC winning streak

Dare Ojo and Monsuru Bashiru were on target as Lobi Stars beat MFM FC 2-1 in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League game played at Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi on Wednesday to end Olukoya Boys winning streak.

Before the 2-1 loss in Makurdi, MFM FC were on a four-game winning streak having won four consecutive league games to sit top of the Nigeria Professional Football League group A standing.

But Dare Ojo, Monsuru Bashiru and Olufemi Thomas ensured an end came to the Olukoya Boys winning streak.

Lobi Stars took the lead in the 16th minute when former Sunshine Stars midfielder, Dare Ojo put the home team in front in the 16th minute of the game.

The lead was however cut short when Chijioke Akuneto pulled back for the visitors in the 28th minute. His goal was assisted by Ohanu.

At half time, the scoreline remained 1-1. Lobi Stars came all out in the second half to get a win and were duly rewarded in the 70th minute when Monsuru Bashiru scored the winning goal.

MFM FC came all out in the later stages of the game to snatch a draw but Olufemi Thomas denied them with his usual saves.

The win will help sooth the pain inflicted on Lobi Stars in South Africa where they were battered by Mamelodi Sundown in their Caf Champions League game.

MFM FC will have the opportunity to bounce back this Sunday when they welcome Insurance Stars at the Agege Stadium.

After nine games, MFM FC remain top of group A with 18 points from 9 games while Lobi Stars occupy the 6th position with 11 points from 6 games.
