Lonzo Ball stays in LA, goes to Lakers with number two pick

The Los Angeles Lakers picked up point guard Lonzo Ball with the number two selection in the NBA Draft on Thursday.

For months leading up to the draft, Ball had been courted by the Lakers.

LaVar Ball, father of the UCLA star, made it clear early in the draft process that his son would remain in Los Angeles after starring with the Bruins as a freshman.

Despite possessing an unorthodox shot, Ball was considered one of the best playmakers in the draft after averaging 14.6 points, 7.6 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game at UCLA.

Comparisons to Jason Kidd have followed Ball since high school, and his continued improvement has strengthened its validity.

The Lakers traded former lottery pick D’Angelo Russell earlier this week, opening the door for Ball to start.

Now back in a solid cap situation, Los Angeles could make a move for Paul George and LeBron James next offseason.
