Lookman at the double as Atalanta romp to big win in Serie A
Super Eagles forward shines for Atalanta in rout
Ademola Lookman scored a brace for Atalanta as they thrashed Salernitana 8-2 in their Serie A clash on Sunday. The Super Eagles ace took his tally for the season to nine goals in Serie A for the club he joined in the summer.
Atalanta showed their intent from the early stages of the match as Jeremie Boga fired home via a deflection following a solo run after only five minutes of action. Salernitana pulled back an equaliser in the tenth minute through Senegal striker Boulaye Dia.
Lookman restored his side’s lead from the penalty spot in the 20th minute before Giorgio Scalvini added a third with a powerful header three minutes later.
Atalanta were awarded a second penalty after Rasmus Hojlund was felled in the box in the 38th minute. Teun Koopmeiners stepped up and saw his penalty saved by Guillermo Ochoa, but he managed to squeeze home the rebound for his side’s fourth.
Hojlund added a fifth in the 41st minute after a good run and brilliant finish past the veteran Ochoa.
The home side needed only eight minutes of the second half before scoring as Lookman fired home a screamer from outside the box for his second of the night. Nicolussi Caviglia pulled one back for Salernitana in the 56th minute to make it 6-2.
Shortly after the hour mark, Ederson dos Santos added a seventh for Atalanta with another screamer against his former side before Nadir Zortea scored the eighth goal after 85 minutes to round off the scoring in the game.
