Lookman Eyes Historic Feat Against Fiorentina
Ademola Lookman has been a nightmare for several Serie A teams, but Fiorentina remains one of his favourite opponents. The Atalanta forward has delivered four goals and two assists in just six league meetings against I Viola.
Alongside Empoli, Fiorentina ranks as Lookman’s most favoured rival in Italy’s top flight, with the Nigerian contributing six goal involvements against both teams. He has netted five goals and provided one assist against Empoli, matching the same tally against Fiorentina.
Lookman has also impressed against Hellas Verona and Napoli, with five goal contributions each. However, Fiorentina could soon become his outright favourite opponent.
If the Super Eagles star scores or provides an assist in Sunday’s clash at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, he will officially surpass his record against Empoli, making Fiorentina his most productive rival in Serie A.
The former Leicester City winger has scored in all four of his previous league games against Fiorentina. Another goal this weekend would see him equal Alexandre Pato’s record of scoring in his first five consecutive Serie A matches against I Viola.
Pato set the record on 10 April 2011 and remains the only player to achieve this feat in the three-points-per-win era. The Brazilian contributed six goals (five goals, one assist) in seven league matches against Fiorentina.
As Atalanta push for a Champions League spot, Lookman’s form will be crucial. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side remain in contention for European qualification, and their attacking firepower will be key in securing a strong finish to the season.
