Lookman ready to showcase A-Game in debut AFCON appearance for Nigeria
Ademola Lookman is gearing up to make a significant impact in his debut appearance for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
With the tournament set to kick off this weekend, Lookman expressed his determination to bring his best performance to the pitch, emphasizing his commitment to representing Nigeria and making the fans proud.
In a chat with NFF TV, Lookman shared insights into the team’s preparations, stating, “Just like the rest of my teammates, we are all prepared. It’s been a few good days training here in Abu Dhabi, preparing for the AFCON and obviously getting the mindset to do big things in Ivory Coast.”
The forward, who is set to feature in his first major tournament for Nigeria, conveyed his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success. “Just like everyone, I want to give my best for the team, to bring my A game to this tournament, for Nigeria and for the fans, and we will see where that takes us,” Lookman added.
Highlighting the unity within the squad, Lookman emphasized, “As a squad and as a team, we are together and we believe in ourselves. That’s the mindset.”
In Sunday’s test game against a local club side in Abu Dhabi, the Eagles displayed their prowess with a commanding 12-0 victory.
Lookman made a significant impact by scoring four goals, contributing to the team’s convincing win.
Victor Osimhen, Umar Sadiq, and Moses Simon also made notable contributions, each bagging a brace, while the opposition had two own goals.
Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to face Guinea in a friendly on Monday, January 8, 2024, further fine-tuning their strategies before the tournament.
