Macauley Chrisantus’ goal not enough as HJK Helsinki crash out

Macauley Chrisantus came from the bench to score for HJK Helsinki in their 4-1 home loss to Olimpija Ljubljana at the Telia 5G-areena on Thursday as the Finish club crash out of the 2018 Europa League in third qualifying round.

The 27-year-old striker who recently joined the Finish club following spells at Murcia, Lamia, Reus Deportiu, AEK Athens FC, Sivasspor, Las Palmas, Karlsruher and Hamburger SV, scored his club’s only goal over two legs against the Slovenian club.

The FIFA U-17 top scorer in 2007 came in in the 64th minutes and scored in the 85th minutes but his strike wasn’t enough to save his side from defeat.

Issah Abass opened the scoring in the 20th minutes for the visitors, Daniel Avramovski made it two in the 70th minutes.

HJK defender Rafinha scored an own goal in the 79th minutes to increase the visitors tally to three before Macauley Chrisantus scored in the 85th minutes to reduce the deficit.

But Goran Brkic strike in the 90th minutes ensured the complete annihilation of HJK.

Olimpija Ljubljana cruised into the playoffs round with a 4-1 away win and 7-1 win on aggregate.
