Maduka Okoye named in Serie A team of the week
Udinese goalkeeper, Maduka Emilio Okoye, has earned a spot in Serie A’s Team of the Week following an outstanding performance in their recent match against Atalanta.
The 24-year-old Nigerian, who has been Udinese’s second choice for most of the season, made a significant impact in the past five games, particularly in the clash against Atalanta.
Despite Udinese’s 2-0 loss to Atalanta, Okoye showcased his goalkeeping prowess by making nine crucial saves.
The German-born Nigerian has been gaining confidence and valuable experience during his recent stint as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. Notably, he has kept one clean sheet and conceded nine goals in the last five games.

Okoye’s exceptional performance against Atalanta earned him recognition in Serie A’s Team of the Week. His presence between the posts prevented a more significant goal deficit for Udinese.
Although Okoye was not selected for the current edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Nigeria has Stanley Nwabali as the goalkeeper trio alongside Olorunleke Ojo and Francis Uzoho, he continues to build strength and form in the Italian league.
Nwabali, Okoye’s compatriot and competitor for the national team, has maintained a commendable performance at AFCON 2023, keeping three clean sheets and conceding only one goal.
The inclusion of Maduka Okoye in Serie A’s team of the week highlights his resurgence and growing impact as he seeks to make significant contributions to Udinese and possibly revive his international career after being snubbed for the 2023 AFCON.
