Maduka Okoye puts in great show to put critics on notice ahead of Ghana games
Maduka Okoye was at the center of everything good that came out of the abandoned Eredivisie game between Vitesse Arnhem and Sparta Rotterdam on Friday.
The Nigerian goalkeeper who has divided opinions between Nigerian football fans was in a super form as his visiting club Sparta Rotterdam were on their way to a massive away win before the game was suspended.
Maduka Okoye did everything and beyond to keep Sparta Rotterdam in the game and on their way to winning a difficult away game before it was suspended on 90+ minutes.
The 22-year-old made nine saves including stopping a penalty. Maduka Okoye made 25 recoveries.
Maduka Okoye’s super display got the fans angry and the Nigerian was pelted with a bottle.
In fact, some fans invaded the pitch and Maduka Okoye was seen sending one of them back to the stand.
At the end referee, Rob Dieperink decided it was better for the game to be stopped.
The show from Maduka Okoye would allay any fears Nigerian fans or retired Super Eagles stars could have ahead of Nigeria’s double-header against Ghana this March.
His mistake at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations against Tunisia is still fresh and many fans seem to now have doubt over his abilities.
But with such a performance like yesterday, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye should be the least of Nigeria’s worries when they file out against Ghana.
Besides, of all the three goalkeepers invited for the games, Maduka Okoye is the only one not sitting on the bench but playing regularly.
