Maduka Okoye sets sights on Super Eagles return

Maduka Okoye, is determined to make a comeback to the Super Eagles after missing out on a spot in the squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cote d’Ivoire.

Okoye faced a challenging period during his time at Sky Bet Championship club Watford last season, where injuries hampered his appearances for the Hornets. However, he took a significant step forward by securing a permanent move to Serie A outfit Udinese as he aims to rejuvenate his career.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper has become a regular starter at Udinese, which has bolstered his confidence and ambition to represent his country once again on the international stage.

“I’m very well now. I feel 100%,” Okoye stated in an interview with the club’s official website. “The national team is an important thing for me and I want to return as soon as possible. It was tough watching the Africa Cup of Nations from home, but this is football.”

Despite missing out on the recent continental tournament, Okoye remains optimistic about his prospects, eager to add to his 16 appearances for the Super Eagles. With his renewed focus and determination, he is poised to compete for a spot in the national team and contribute to its success in future competitions.

In his absence, Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali impressed in goal for the Super Eagles =, helping Nigeria to a 2023 AFCON silver medal in Cote d’Ivoire.
