Mahrez sends message to City after completing Al Ahli move

Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez has sent a message to Manchester City after completing a move to Saudi Arabian Club Al Ahli today, Friday July 28.

A spell that produced 11 trophies in 236 appearances with 78 goals to his name plus 59 assists will now give way to anew chapter for the former Leicester City man.

After helping Manchester City to the treble in the 2022/2023 season, Riyad Mahrez has elected to join the growing list of stars moving to the Saudi Arabian Pro league with his transfer officially confirmed.

In a emotional message to the Etihad based outfit, former African footballer of the year Riyad Mahrez paid glowing tribute to his former teammates, fans and Pep Guardiola who he described as the best manager in the world.

“To play for Manchester City has been an honour and privilege,” said the winger who will celebrate his 33rd birthday next February.

“I came to City to win trophies and enjoy my football and I achieved all that and so much more.

“I have had five unforgettable years with this football club, working with unbelievable players, fantastic supporters, and the best manager in the world,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’ve made a lifetime of wonderful memories and the manner of our Premier League title wins and the battles we’ve had with Liverpool and, last year, Arsenal, underlined our collective desire and mentality to be the best. Manchester City will forever be a huge and happy part of my life.” Mahrez said.

The Algeria international joins former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and ex-Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino in signing for Al-Ahli and will join the squad in preparation for the Saudi Arabian Pro-league season which gets underway on August 11.
