Mamelodi Sundowns 3 Zamalek 0: Langerman wonder strike takes the Brazilians closer to CAF Champions league glory
Tebogo Langerman scored a wonder goal as Mamelodi Sundowns eased to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Zamalek in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final.
Sundowns dominated throughout at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, and were unfortunate not to take the lead 20 minutes in when Thabo Nthethe headed wide from close range.
However, they deservedly opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, Anthony Laffor engineering space for himself in the area before powering home a venomous finish.
Pitso Mosimane’s side doubled their tally before the interval, Langerman’s sublime strike clattering in off the woodwork after evading the grasp of Zamalek goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shenawy.
And any hopes of a Zamalek fightback were all-but ended in the opening stages of the second half, Islam Gamal inadvertently turning Percy Tau’s effort into his own net.
Matters were made worse for the visitors midway through the second half, El-Shenawy hobbling off with an apparent knee injury, back-up goalkeeper Mahmoud Gennesh coming on in his place.
Zamalek did press for a consolation late on, but managed little in the way of meaningful attempts as the hosts cruised into a three-goal advantage heading into the second leg a week on Sunday.
