Man United star Patrick Dorgu officially adds ‘Chinazaekpere’ to his name to Honour Nigerian Roots

Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu has officially added ‘Chinazaekpere’ to his name, recognising his Nigerian heritage.

The 20-year-old, who joined United from Italian club Lecce for £25 million in January, now wishes to be known as Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu across all club records, including matchday team sheets and official documents.

Dorgu’s decision reflects his strong Nigerian ancestry, as both of his parents are from the West African nation. His newly included name, ‘Chinazaekpere’, comes from the Igbo language and means ‘God answers prayers’—a tribute to his faith and identity.

Manchester United Updates Records

Manchester United have already updated Dorgu’s profile on their website and matchday programme, ensuring his full name appears in official squad lists going forward, according to Manchester Evening News.

The Danish international, who has played for Denmark at senior level, has quickly become an important player under United’s new manager Rúben Amorim.

Since arriving at Old Trafford, Dorgu has made six Premier League appearances, all as a starter. However, he recently served a three-match suspension after receiving a red card in United’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town. With his ban now over, he is set to return for United’s upcoming match against Nottingham Forest.

Rising Career at Club and International Level

Born in Denmark, Dorgu developed his skills at Nordsjaelland before moving to Lecce, where he impressed in Serie A. His performances in Italy earned him a move to Manchester United as part of their defensive rebuild.

On the international stage, Dorgu made his senior debut for Denmark in September 2024, scoring just 42 seconds after coming on against Switzerland. He also played a key role in Denmark’s recent Nations League matches, providing an assist for Christian Eriksen in a 5-2 defeat to Portugal.

With his full name now officially recognised, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu continues to embrace his roots while making his mark in European football.
