Manchester City bend Hammers to go top of the EPL standings

In their race for the 2022/2023 English Premier League title, Manchester City had to bend a stubborn Hammers challenge to win 3-0 and go top of the standings.

Pep Guardiola`s men started the game vs West Ham United FC on Wednesday May 3, trailing challengers Arsenal but did just enough to take maximum points at the Etihad Stadium.

A drab first half saw City hit the post twice as they laboured in vain search for the breakthrough against the Hammers who are in danger of top-flight relegation.

Four-minutes into the second half, fit-again defender Nathan Ake met a delightful Riyad Mahrez cross with a powerful header to put the Citizens in front.

Manchester City continued to dominate possession and it was just a matter of time before the second goal arrived.

Record-breaker Erling Haaland dinked over Fabianski for his 35th league goal of the season after being played through by Jack Grealish.

Phil Foden added gloss to the scoreline when he scored the 1000th goal of Pep Guardiola`s era as Manchester City manager.

3 goals for 3 points to take Manchester City above Arsenal with an additional game in hand over the Gunners.

City have garnered 79 points from 33 matches to better Arsenal who have 78 points from 34 games.
