Manchester United beaten at home by Brighton

Manchester United lost 3-1 at home to Brighton, making it just one win in their last six league matches. The defeat came after a hopeful midweek victory over Southampton, but United could not build on that.

Brighton started strong and took the lead early in the 5th minute when Yankuba Minteh scored from Kaoru Mitoma’s cross. United equalized through a Bruno Fernandes penalty after Joshua Zirkzee was fouled by Carlos Baleba.

Brighton regained the lead in the 60th minute when Mitoma scored from Minteh’s pass, making him the highest-scoring Japanese player in Premier League history. The game was sealed in the 76th minute when Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana made a mistake, allowing Giorgino Rutter to score into an empty net.

The loss leaves United in 13th place, while Brighton moves up to 9th, closer to qualifying for Europe.
