Manchester United draw Real Sociedad in Europa League Round of 16 first-leg
Manchester United drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16, SportsRation reports on Thursday night.
United were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fifth round by Fulham last weekend, losing on penalties. This means their only chance of winning a trophy this season is now in the Europa League.
The team travelled to San Sebastian on Wednesday after their final training session at Carrington, hoping to get a good result to take back to Manchester for the second leg.
Real Sociedad made a strong start to the match and controlled play for much of the first half, but they couldn’t score, and the game was still 0-0 at half-time.
The breakthrough came just before the hour mark when Joshua Zirkzee scored for Sociedad. However, they were awarded a penalty after a handball from Bruno Fernandes, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
