Manchester United finalise deal with Sporting Lisbon for Ruben Amorim as new manager
Manchester United have secured a deal with Sporting Lisbon for Ruben Amorim to become their next manager, replacing Erik ten Hag. After extensive negotiations, both clubs reached an agreement for Amorim’s release, with United paying an €11 million fee to facilitate the move.
The 39-year-old manager, regarded as one of Europe’s promising tactical minds, will officially take charge following the international break.
Key Terms of the Deal
Amorim’s contract with Sporting included a €10 million release clause and a mandatory 30-day notice period. To ensure a swift transition, United agreed to pay an additional €1 million, respecting Sporting’s request to retain Amorim for their next three matches, including their UEFA Champions League game against Manchester City and a domestic fixture against Braga.
Amorim’s debut as Manchester United’s manager is scheduled for November 24, in an away fixture against Ipswich Town.
Interim Management by Ruud Van Nistelrooy
Until Amorim’s arrival, United’s interim coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy will lead the team. The former PSV Eindhoven boss has already impressed in his temporary role, securing a commanding 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.
Why the Delay?
According to reports from The Athletic, Sporting was adamant about Amorim’s availability for critical upcoming games, and United respected his dedication to the Portuguese club. United’s Director of Football Operations, Omar Berrarda, led the delegation that secured the deal with Sporting, showing the club’s commitment to Amorim’s smooth transition.
