Manchester United Held as Burnley Fight Back in First Game After Amorim Exit

Manchester United were held to a frustrating draw against Burnley in their first match since the sacking of head coach Ruben Amorim, as the relegation-threatened hosts showed spirit to earn a point.

Burnley took the lead before half-time after Ayden Heaven scored an own goal, giving the home side hope of a rare positive result. United responded strongly after the break and looked set for victory when Benjamin Sesko scored twice within 10 minutes. Both goals were well-taken first-time finishes and marked an impressive display from the striker.

Just when United appeared in control, Burnley struck back. Jaidon Anthony found space inside the box and finished calmly to make it 2-2, denying the visitors all three points.

It was a disappointing night for interim manager Darren Fletcher, who made changes to the team’s shape and moved away from the system used by Amorim. United created many chances but failed to make them count. Several efforts were cleared off the line, a goal by Lisandro Martinez was ruled out, and Sesko missed opportunities to complete his hat-trick. Young substitute Shea Lacey also came close, hitting the crossbar with a fine shot.

Defensive problems again proved costly for United. Poor marking and slow reactions allowed Burnley to score both goals, continuing a season-long issue of conceding too easily.

Despite the draw, there were positives for United, especially Sesko’s performance, which offered a glimpse of his quality. However, the result leaves the club with more questions than answers, as they continue to struggle for consistency and remain without a win in recent matches.
