Manchester United Reject Antony Scores Again as Revival Continues at Real Betis
Manchester United loanee Antony scored his third goal for Real Betis in their 2-0 La Liga win over Real Sociedad on Sunday, continuing his impressive start in Spain.
After leaving United in the January transfer window, Antony ended a difficult two-and-a-half-year spell at Old Trafford. Despite a strong start with three Premier League goals in his first three games, his overall record for United was disappointing—just four goals in 52 appearances since the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
In search of more playing time and a fresh start, Antony joined Betis, and his career revival has been swift. He scored his first La Liga goal against Celta Vigo last weekend, followed by a goal in Betis’ 3-0 Europa Conference League win over Gent on Thursday.
Against Sociedad, Antony wasted no time making an impact. After a goalless first half, he opened the scoring just six minutes into the second half. Isco’s cross found a Betis teammate, whose header was poorly cleared by Sociedad, falling perfectly for Antony. The Brazilian made no mistake, striking a powerful left-footed shot past goalkeeper Álex Remiro.
Antony nearly added a second moments later, but his shot narrowly missed the target.
With three goals and an assist in just four appearances for Betis, the 24-year-old’s move looks to be paying off. His teammate, Marc Roca, added two more goals in quick succession to seal the win, ensuring all three points for Betis.
Antony’s revival at Betis is well underway, as he continues to rediscover his form away from Manchester United.
