Manchester United sack Erik Ten Hag, appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy as Interim manager
Manchester United have announced the departure of manager Erik Ten Hag following a series of disappointing results this season. The decision comes as the Red Devils struggle to find form, sitting in 14th place on the Premier League table with just 11 points from nine matches.
The Dutch manager, who joined United in April 2022, leaves after a disappointing start to the current campaign. Ten Hag’s side managed only three wins in nine games, falling far behind in the race for a top-four finish and placing pressure on the club’s leadership to act.
Despite leading United to success last season, including the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024, the club opted for a managerial change to revive their season.
Former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has been named as interim head coach, taking over immediately. Van Nistelrooy, who joined the club’s coaching staff earlier this year after leaving PSV Eindhoven, will manage the team alongside the existing coaching crew until a permanent manager is appointed.
In an official statement, Manchester United expressed their appreciation for Ten Hag’s efforts:
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”
The club confirmed that Van Nistelrooy will oversee the team as they search for a long-term replacement:
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
The Red Devils now face the challenge of turning their season around under Van Nistelrooy’s leadership. The Manchester United legend will need to stabilize the team ahead of key matches in both domestic and European competitions as the club looks for a new permanent manager.
Van Nistelrooy’s familiarity with the squad may prove crucial, but fans are eager to see how the club progresses amid uncertainty surrounding the next managerial appointment.
