Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that rising star Chido Obi will be available for selection in Sunday’s Premier League match against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Obi, who made his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur, was missing from United’s 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League. However, Amorim has now reassured fans that the young player will be in contention for the game against his former club.
In his press conference, Amorim expressed frustration over the team’s performance in the final moments of the draw in Spain, highlighting the team’s tiredness.
“We have to prepare for Sunday and then think about the important game on Thursday. But right now, I don’t know,” Amorim said, as quoted by United’s official website.
When asked specifically about Obi’s availability, the manager confirmed: “Everybody can start. If they are training tomorrow [Friday], or played today [Thursday], they can be ready. Chido is on the list, so he can play.”
He added, “We are trying to see which players are fresh and not at risk of injury. Even then, we have to take a little risk, but we need to be competitive on Sunday.”
Since his summer move from Arsenal, Obi has impressed for United’s youth team, scoring 15 goals in all competitions, including a brilliant hat-trick against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup. His excellent form has caught Amorim’s eye, earning him a spot in the senior squad due to injuries to key players.
