Manchester United’s Old Trafford Faces Mice Infestation
Manchester United’s troubles are not limited to the pitch, as a new report reveals that Old Trafford has been hit by a mice infestation, leading to a significant drop in its hygiene rating.
Following a routine inspection, health officials found evidence of mice activity at the stadium, including droppings in a ground-level corporate suite and a food kiosk on the concourse. Although these areas were not where food is prepared, the findings prompted inspectors to reduce the stadium’s food hygiene rating from four stars to two.
The issue is reportedly linked to Old Trafford’s location, which is near a canal and a railway line. Pest controllers are now visiting the stadium four to five times a week as part of efforts to tackle the problem.
A spokesperson for Manchester United stated:
“Manchester United implements a robust pest-control system throughout Old Trafford. Multiple weekly checks are made in all catering areas, and stringent measures are taken to ensure high levels of hygiene and cleanliness wherever food is stored, prepared, and served. If issues of this nature occur, immediate and appropriate action is taken.”
The club is working with pest control partners and Trafford Council to resolve the issue and improve its hygiene rating to the maximum five stars as quickly as possible.
A Trafford Council spokesperson confirmed:
“Our environmental health officers gave a food hygiene rating of two following a routine visit. We are now working closely with Manchester United to ensure the necessary improvements are carried out.”
This report comes just a day after Manchester United suffered their seventh Premier League defeat of the season, adding to the challenges the club is currently facing both on and off the pitch.
