Marcus Rashford: What former England star said about wantaway Manchester United forwards attitude
Former England international Chris Waddle has strongly criticised Marcus Rashford’s attitude and questioned his commitment, warning Tottenham Hotspur not to sign the Manchester United forward.
Waddle believes Rashford could end up following a similar path to Dele Alli, who showed early promise but failed to reach his potential.
Rashford’s future at Manchester United is uncertain after he expressed a desire to leave the club. Tottenham is one of several teams reportedly interested in signing him on loan, but Waddle has urged caution.
The former Spurs winger expressed concerns about Rashford’s desire and performance, describing his recent form as “average.” Waddle worries that Rashford could become complacent if he moves to a new club and questioned his ability to maintain consistent high-level performances.
“There’s a lot of mind games with Marcus Rashford,” Waddle said. “There are doubts about his desire, passion, and ambition. If he went to Tottenham and the fans started singing his name, would he think, ‘That’s it, I’ve arrived, I don’t need to do anything more’?”
Waddle added that whoever signs Rashford might only get six months of effort, and after that, it’s unclear whether he can maintain the hunger to keep improving.
He also pointed out that Rashford needs to play regularly for his club to secure a spot in the England team: “He needs to be playing every week to prove he should be starting for England.”
Waddle compared Rashford to other players like Dele Alli and Ross Barkley, who showed early promise but struggled to maintain their form.
Rashford has not played for Manchester United since December 12, and he was only included in the squad for their 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on New Year’s Eve.
