Mascherano Reflects on Argentina U-20’s Loss to Flying Eagles
Argentina U-20 coach Javier Mascherano has reacted after his team was sent parking in the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA U-20 world cup by Nigeria.
Second half Goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Rilwanu Haliru Sarki handed Nigeria a hard fought 2-0 win against the hosts, and one of the tournament favourites.
Speaking in his post-match press conference former Argentina and Barcelona star Mascherano, admitted that the Flying Eagles deserves to be congratulated.
“We played the game we had to play and it couldn’t happen,” Mascherano was quoted on the Argentine national team Twitter handle.
“Football is like that, sometimes it gives you and sometimes it takes away. Today we have to congratulate Nigeria.
“The team tried anyway, we have nothing to blame because the boys left everything unfortunately the two mistakes we had ended in the goals.”
Flying Eagles will know their quarterfinal opponents after the match between Ecuador or South Korea.
