Matic hits back at Onana’s comments on Man United legacy

Nemanja Matic has fired back at Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana after the Cameroonian made comments suggesting the current United squad is way better than previous ones. The Serbian midfielder, who made over 100 appearances for the club between 2017 and 2022, didn’t hold back in his response.

In a sharp rebuke reported by Fabrizio Romano, Matic said:

”Onana said they’re way better than us? When you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United history, you need to take care what you’re talking about.”

He went further to name legendary United shot-stoppers to emphasize his point:

“If it was Van der Sar, Schmeichel or De Gea saying that, ok… but Onana, he’s one of the worst.”

The feud appears to stem from Onana’s recent comments comparing the Ten Hag era to squads of the past, with many fans taking issue with what they saw as disrespect toward former players.

Onana, who joined from Inter Milan in 2023, has endured a turbulent spell between the sticks. From early Champions League errors to inconsistent league form, his tenure has been anything but smooth. Despite slight improvements this season, many fans and pundits still question his reliability.

Matic, now at Lyon, is known for his leadership and calm demeanor, so this public rebuke signals just how strongly he feels about protecting the legacy of past United teams.

While the drama plays out off the pitch, We expect United’s current form to ultimately speak louder than words.
