Mauricio Pochettino to become head coach of US Men’s National team
Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as the new head coach of the United States men’s national football team (USMNT).
The 52-year-old Argentine will take over the role ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Pochettino’s appointment follows the departure of Gregg Berhalter, who faced criticism after a disappointing performance in the recent Copa America. Pochettino, who left Chelsea earlier this summer, is set to bring his extensive experience from top clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain to the USMNT.
US Soccer’s sporting director, Matt Crocker, played a key role in the recruitment process. Crocker previously worked with Pochettino at Southampton. The USSF initially targeted Jurgen Klopp for the position, but negotiations with the former Liverpool manager did not materialize.

Pochettino’s new role will involve preparing the USMNT for the upcoming World Cup, where he will aim to build a competitive team capable of advancing to the later stages of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Pochettino’s former club, Chelsea, continues to pursue Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Despite Osimhen’s clear desire to leave Napoli this summer, negotiations between the clubs have yet to reach a resolution.
