During the Formula 1 break after the Singapore Grand Prix, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen revealed he will be testing cars in a different racing series. This comes after recent controversy with the FIA and Verstappen’s hint at retirement from F1.
The controversy began during the FIA press conference at the Singapore GP, where Verstappen was penalized with one day of community service for using a swear word. Though his comment was aimed at his RB20 F1 car, not at a person or team, the FIA found him in violation of the International Sporting Code.
Feeling the punishment was unfair, Verstappen shared his frustration with the media, hinting that such issues could push him to retire sooner. Speaking after the race, he said: “When you can’t be yourself and have to deal with these silly things, it makes you question your future in the sport. It’s tiring.”
Verstappen, a three-time world champion, also mentioned he would be testing GT3 cars during the break, preparing for the 2024 season. Speaking to Viaplay, he confirmed this test was unrelated to Formula 1. He added, “I’m not very involved with the F1 car right now. I’m testing GT3 cars to plan for next year, which is exciting for me.”
Max Verstappen has expressed interest in launching his own GT3 racing team by 2025, aiming to support young drivers. While his Red Bull contract runs until 2028, Verstappen has hinted he may not stay in Formula 1 for that long.
“If I had to guess, I think I’ll continue until 2025, but going all the way to 2028 seems too long,” he said last year.
Verstappen’s break from F1 may give him time to explore other racing passions as he considers his future in the sport.
