PSG star Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick for the side as they defeated the relegated Metz 5-0 in their last Ligue 1 match of the season.
After months of speculation about a transfer away from the Parc Des Princes, including a summer transfer request handed in by the 23-year-old, PSG finally announced that the Frenchman had agreed to a new deal hours before kick-off. Just prior to kick-off, Mbappe was handed a symbolic jersey with the number “2025” at the back, showing that he signed a three-year deal with the club.
The forward wasted no time in showing his commitment to the project at the club as he opened the scoring for the side after 24 minutes. The 23-year-old received a pass from the departing Angel Di Maria before proceeding to round the goalkeeper and slot the ball into an empty net.
Mbappe added a second four minutes later, this time from a Lionel Messi pass as he squeezed an effort into the near post from a tight angle.
Neymar added a third for PSG in the 31st minute of the clash, delicately chipping a loose ball over the keeper after Messi and Di Maria had combined in the box and the latter was denied by a last-ditch tackle.
Five minutes into the second half, Mbappe completed his hat-trick. The 23-year-old pounced on a loose ball in the Metz box before rounding the goalkeeper and putting the ball into an unguarded net.
Metz were reduced to 10 men in the 58th minute after Boubacar Traore was sent off following a second bookable offence.
Di Maria secured a fairytale end to his career as a PSG player by scoring his side’s fifth of the game in the 67th minute after Messi’s shot came back off the post and fell to him in the box.
Mbappe ended the season with 28 goals and 19 assists in 35 Ligue 1 appearances for Les Parisiens, leading the league in goals and assists as they regained the crown taken from them by Lille in 2020-21.
