Melo picked ahead of Embiid to replace injured Love as All-Star reserve

Carmelo Anthony has replaced Kevin Love on the Eastern Conference All-Star roster.

The NBA announced the move Wednesday in lieu of Love’s recent knee surgery that is expected to keep him out at least six weeks.

Anthony, who was considered one of the biggest All-Star snubs, was averaging 23.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game heading into the New York Knicks’ clash against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday.

It will be Anthony’s 10th All-Star appearance. That does not mean he will be happy about going.

Anthony said Sunday he made plans for the weekend and was looking forward to the time off “to get away from everything”.

“If they call me I’d consider it,” he said. “But I would love to utilise this break.”

Despite constant trade rumours, the Knicks star stated he expects to remain in New York through the trade deadline later this month.

Anthony recently passed Charles Barkley for 25th on the all-time NBA scoring list.

He will come off the bench for the Eastern Conference All-Stars.
