Messi leads Inter Miami to first MLS Cup

Inter Miami Wins First MLS Cup with Two Assists from Messi

Inter Miami won its first MLS Cup on Saturday, beating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3–1 in the 2025 final. Miami went up 1–0 after an own goal gave them the lead, but Vancouver pulled one back in the 60th minute. From there, the game shifted. Messi set up Rodrigo De Paul in the 71st minute to put Miami back in front, then added another assist to Tadeo Allende in stoppage time to seal the result.

The win also marks the end of an era: Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba retired as champions, finishing their careers alongside Messi just as they once did at Barcelona. For Messi, the MLS Cup becomes the 48th trophy of his career, adding yet another milestone to an already unmatched resume.

Inter Miami has been building toward this moment since its launch, and lifting the club’s first MLS Cup is a major step in its story. With Messi still producing at a high level, the club’s trajectory only looks stronger from here.
