Micheal Folorunsho wins Serie A award

Italy born Nigeria Super Eagles eligible midfielder Michael Ijemuan Folorunsho, currently on loan at Hellas Verona from Napoli, has received the Serie A goal of the month award for February 2024.

Folorunsho, aged 26, has been a bright spot in a difficult season at Hellas Verona who are struggling against relegation. The team currently sits 17th in the Italian top flight.

During a recent match against Juventus at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi, Hellas Verona managed to secure a 2-2 draw, with Folorunsho’s goal standing out as the highlight of the game.

In the 11th minute of the first half, Folorunsho scored a remarkable volley reminiscent of Zinedine Zidane’s style, using his weaker foot to place the ball into the top corner of Wojciech Szczesny’s goal.

That outstanding goal earned him the prestigious Goal of the Month award for February, as announced on the official social media page of the Italian Serie A.

Although born in Italy to Nigerian parents, Folorunsho is eligible to play for the Super Eagles. Despite his Italian nationality, as he has not represented the Gli Azzurri at any level.

Folorunsho began his professional career with Napoli in 2019 but has yet to make an appearance for the club. Instead, he has been loaned out to various clubs including Calabria, Calcio, and Bari, where he scored nine goals in thirty-two games, before joining Hellas Verona.
