Michelle Alozie’s coach sacked over alleged player relationship

Nigeria Super Falcons star, Michelle Alozie and her club Houston Dash are trending after their goalkeeping coach Matt Lampson was sacked from his role following allegations of a relationship with a player.

The incident sheds light on the strict policies regarding player-coach relationships in professional sports.

According to Equalizer, the alleged relationship between Lampson and a player at Houston Dash began last year and was brought to the attention of the club’s front office at the beginning of 2024.

Lampson, who had a decade-long career in Major League Soccer (MLS), reportedly did not report for pre-season at the end of January. The Dash confirmed to the publication that his contract was terminated on March 18.

The NWSL has clear rules and policies prohibiting player-coach relationships due to the inherent power imbalance they create. Similar issues have surfaced in other leagues, including the Women’s Super League in England, where Leicester City Women launched an investigation into manager Willie Kirk over an alleged relationship with a player.

This incident comes in the wake of an investigation two years ago into the NWSL and U.S. Soccer, which found failures in protecting players from sexual and emotional harassment. The Yates report’s findings led to several coaches being banned, highlighting systemic issues within the women’s game.

The Houston Dash, in response to inquiries about Lampson’s termination, stated, “Houston Dash goalkeeper coach Matt Lampson was terminated on March 18. We respect the privacy and confidentiality of our players and employees and will not comment on specific details of club employment matters.”

It has not been stated which Houston Dash player is involved , reason the pretty Michelle Alozie and her teammates will stay in the speculation table until further details are unveiled.
