Mikel Arteta could leave Arsenal this summer

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly considering leaving the club at the end of the current season, joining the recent trend of high-profile managerial announcements.

This news comes shortly after Jurgen Klopp’s decision to depart Liverpool and Xavi’s confirmation of leaving Barcelona.

According to reports from Sport, Arteta has informed close associates that he is contemplating ending his tenure with Arsenal once the 2023-24 campaign concludes.

The Spaniard, who took over as head coach of Arsenal in December 2019, has played a pivotal role in transforming the team into Premier League title contenders.

Last season, Arsenal was at the top of the table until the late stages, narrowly missing out on the title to Manchester City.

Despite currently sitting in third place, five points behind leaders Liverpool, Arteta has Arsenal in contention for the Premier League title this season as well.

His contract with the club is set to run until the summer of 2025, meaning that if he opts to leave a year early, negotiations with the club will be necessary to facilitate a smooth departure.

The recent managerial developments, including Klopp and Xavi’s announcements, have stirred speculation about potential changes in the football managerial landscape.

While there have been no direct contacts between Arteta and Barcelona, Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s president, is reportedly an admirer of Arteta and believes he could be a good fit for the club.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Mikel Arteta will indeed part ways with Arsenal this summer and what the future holds for both the manager and the club.
