Mikel giving Middlesbrough undue advantage, rivals coach cries out
Former England manager Steve McClaren has endorsed Middlesbrough for promotion as he is convinced that they will make it to Premier League next season because of Mikel Obi.
Steve McClaren made it clear with John Mikel Obi in Middlesbroughâs rank theu have an undue advantage.
The former Middlesbrough manager who now manages Queens Park Rangers was on the losing end on Saturday when his side visited the Riverside.
Jonny Howsonâs first goal of the season and Ashley Fletcherâs maiden league strike ensured Middlesbrough secure an easy 2-0 against McClaren side.
Although, Middlesbrough scored both goals in the first half and were the better side, Steve McClaren pointed out the effort of John Mikel in the game and his importance to Tony Pulis’ promotion course.
McClaren said: âI thought Mikel was an excellent signing. You always have that one player in central midfield who gives you stability and control and they have one of the best.
âHeâs a Champions League winner, he dominates and takes care of the ball. Every team needs a Mikel. Heâs a kind of enforcer and heâs given them another edge.â
