Mikel Obi: Enzo Maresca Would Have Been Sacked Under Abramovich

Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has criticised the club’s recent struggles under manager Enzo Maresca. He believes that if Roman Abramovich were still the owner, Maresca would have already lost his job.

Chelsea suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, dropping to sixth place in the Premier League. This has raised concerns among fans and former players.

Mikel Obi Questions Chelsea’s Recruitment

Mikel, a key player in Chelsea’s 2012 UEFA Champions League win, also criticised the club’s recent signings. He believes their recruitment has not been good enough, contributing to the team’s poor performances.

So far this season, Chelsea have dropped points in 13 of their 25 league matches, with six defeats and seven draws. Once considered title contenders, they are now fighting to secure a top-four finish.

“Abramovich Would Not Have Been Patient”

Chelsea were known for quickly sacking managers under Abramovich. Speaking on The ObiOne Podcast, Mikel said things would have been different in the past.

“That would have been a crisis back in the day. The helicopter would have landed by now, and whoever was in charge would be gone. No two ways about it.”

Although Mikel is not calling for Maresca to be sacked, he is frustrated with Chelsea’s decline. He believes the club needs better planning to improve results.

Chelsea’s Board Stands by Maresca

Despite pressure from fans and former players, Chelsea’s management have decided to support Maresca for now, according to GOAL.

The club are still competing in the UEFA Conference League and have a chance to finish in the Premier League’s top four. However, Maresca will need to improve results quickly to ease concerns about his future.
