Mikel Obi in line for Chelsea FC return
Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi could make a return to Stamford Bridge in September 2023 as Chelsea legends face Bayern Munich legends.
The Charity game will afford Obi and the former Blues bulk of whom will be drawn from the 2012 UEFA Champions League title winning squad another opportunity to meet and reminisce on the memories from that special night in Munich.
A match in remembrance of Chelsea legend Gianluca Vialli, who passed away in 2022, the Chelsea Foundation and the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which supports the work of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, will split funds from the game to support their work.
Already, Roberto Di Matteo has been confirmed as Coach of a Chelsea legends team that will be captained by John Terry
Mikel Obi, Micheal Essien, Branislav Ivanovic and other members of the 2012 UEFA Champions League winning squad are expected to be joined by other legends like Gianfranco Zola and Claude Makelele for the game at Stamford Bridge.
Tagged the “Legends of Europe” game, tickets are already on sale via this Chelsea tickets purchase link. The match will hold on September 9, 2023 at Stamford Bridge.
If he gets on the team for this game, Nigerian Midfielder Mikel Obi will get a chance to play at the Bridge again for the first time in a Blue shirt since his transfer to Tianjin Teda in 2017.
The 36-year old announced his retirement from active football in September 2022.
