Mikel Obi sees yellow as Middlesbrough fall to Brentford at Riverside

Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel was on the losing side as Middlesbrough fall 2-1 to Brentford at Riverside in their championship game on Saturday.

The former Chelsea star who has been the main person behind Middlesbrough’s rise on the championship log couldn’t do much as Boro fall to 12th placed Brentford.

Middlesbrough took the lead in the 7th minute through Ashley Fletcher. Fletcher tapped-in to put Boro ahead at the Riverside, but they were then second best for long spells.

Boro were under serious pressure so much that Mikel Obi was cautioned in the 38th minute. In fact, Brentford twice had goals ruled out in a first half when Sergi Canos also hit the bar. At the end of the first half Boro maintained their lead.

Brentdord’s pressure eventually paid off when Ryan Shotton scored a 70th own goal to restore parity for the visitors. The Bees got the winning goal in the 73rd minute through Said Benrahma. The loss is a big blow to Boro who is fighting for an automatic spot.

The Bees, who had only managed one away league victory in 15 matches this season, made it two with win at Riverside.

Middlesbrough stay fifth, four points clear off Bristol City, who dropped to seventh after losing to Leeds United. Second-placed Leeds are second, 12 points ahead of Boro.
