Mikel Obi vows to help Chelsea sign Victor Osimhen
Super Eagles and Chelsea legend John Mikel Obi has promised to do everything he can to help bring his fellow Nigerian, Victor Osimhen, to Chelsea.
Mikel revealed this during his Obi One podcast, where he shared details about the striker’s failed transfer to Chelsea over the summer.
The 25-year-old Osimhen was close to joining Chelsea during the recent transfer window, but the Premier League club could not meet Napoli’s high asking price. Despite this, Mikel is confident that Chelsea will make another attempt to sign Osimhen in January.
Mikel made it clear that he is determined to see Osimhen play for Chelsea. He said, “The club is in a very happy place with Victor. Victor is in a happy place with the club. I’m not gonna rest; I want to make sure I get him to the club. Not just because he’s my friend or he’s my younger brother, or he’s Nigerian, no. He is one of the best strikers in the world right now, you know what I mean. He’s Africa’s best player.”
Osimhen, who recently joined Turkish club Galatasaray on loan after his relationship with Napoli soured, was reportedly eager to join Chelsea during the summer. Mikel, who was involved in the transfer discussions, dismissed claims that Osimhen’s demands were unreasonable. Instead, he explained that it was financial negotiations between Chelsea and Napoli that caused the deal to fall through.
Mikel, who played for Chelsea for many years, believes Osimhen would make a huge impact at the club. He explained, “I know what he can bring to the club. I’m sure a lot of Chelsea fans know what Victor can bring to the club. So for me, I’m not just doing him a favour; no, I want to make sure that he comes to the club and helps the club.”
Mikel is determined to make the transfer happen and believes that Osimhen’s move to Chelsea would be successful for both the player and the club. “We all know that would do that, so for me, I’m very happy with what has happened, and I am very happy to be in the middle of that, and I’m not going to rest until this happens because I know it is going to be a great partnership between Victor and Chelsea and I know that he’s gonna help us get back to where we would be.”
As January approaches, Mikel is hopeful that the deal will finally be completed, and Chelsea fans can expect another push for Osimhen in the winter transfer window.
