Minister of Sports hails Nigeria Athletes at Paris 2024 on Record-Breaking Performances

Nigeria’s athletes are making waves at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympic Games, with standout performances that have drawn praise from the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh.

Rosemary Chukwuma blazed her way into the semifinals of the women’s 100m, at 11.26 seconds to secure third place in her heat.

In the field events, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has once again proven his mettle by qualifying for the men’s Shot Put final. Enekwechi’s best throw of 21.13 meters placed him fifth in Group B and ninth overall, marking his second consecutive Olympic final appearance. The consistency and power he brings to the event continue to establish him as a formidable competitor.

Senator Enoh couldn’t hold back his admiration for the athletes, saying, “Our athletes have shown great resilience and dedication. We are proud of their efforts and look forward to more success as the competition progresses.”

The Nigerian team also celebrated a new national record in the Mixed 4x400m relay. The quartet of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Emmanuel Ifeanyi Ojeli, and Patience Okon-George narrowly missed out on the final, finishing fourth in their heat with a time of 3:11.99.

Despite the near miss, they delivered a remarkable performance, setting a new Nigerian record. Great Britain won the heat with a National Record of 3:10.61, followed by the Netherlands and Italy.

Tima Godbless, making her Olympic debut, finished sixth in her 100m heat, at 11.33 seconds. Though she didn’t advance, her performance is a promising start to her Olympic journey.

In the women’s Discus qualification, Ashley Anumba, also making her Olympic debut, threw a distance of 58.83 meters, finishing 14th in Group A. While she didn’t make the final, her participation marks a significant step in her career.
