Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah clipped Steven Gerrard’s goal-scoring record when he scored his 187th Liverpool FC goal in the 3-1 win over Bournemouth.
Salah missed from a penalty but was lucky to score from the rebound to complete a turnaround for the Reds who had to comeback from a 3rd minute Bournemouth goal by Semenyo.
Before Mo Salah scored to put Liverpool 2-1 up just before the halftime break, Luiz Diaz scored to level scores at Anfield in a game Jurgen Klopp’s men dominated.
Liverpool FC were reduced to 10-men in the 58th minute as new signing Mac Allister was sent off but that won’t count as Diogo Jota added a third to seal a 3-1 win, their first of the 2023/2024 English Premier League season.
Salah is now outright fifth in the goal-scoring charts with his 187th goal for Liverpool and the first of the season.
A very remarkable feat by the Egyptian, who has amassed the tally in 306 games – now allowing him to set his sights on club legend Billy Liddell, in fourth with 228 strikes.
Surpassing Gerrard is certainly impressive, with Salah’s rise up the charts one of a myriad of records he has under his belt since joining the club in 2017.
Liverpool FC will face Newcastle United FC in week three on August 27.
