Mo Salah Goal Gives Egypt 2-1 Win Over Zimbabwe at AFCON 2025

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah scored deep into stoppage time as Egypt came from behind to defeat Zimbabwe 2-1 in their opening Group B match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Agadir, Morocco.
Zimbabwe shocked the seven-time champions by taking the lead in the 20th minute. Emmanuel Jalai played a fine through pass that allowed Prince Dube to calmly finish past Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
After going ahead, Zimbabwe defended well and restricted Egypt to few clear chances despite the Pharaohs enjoying most of the possession. Emam Ashour went close before the break, while Trezeguet and Omar Marmoush both tested Zimbabwe goalkeeper Washington Arubi.
Egypt showed more urgency in the second half and were rewarded in the 64th minute when Omar Marmoush beat his marker and fired a powerful shot under the crossbar to make it 1-1.
The Pharaohs continued to push for a winner as Zimbabwe began to tire, but chances from Zizo, Mostafa Mohamed and Ibrahim Adel went begging.
Just when the match seemed set to end in a draw, Salah struck in the first minute of added time. The Egypt captain controlled a pass from Mostafa Mohamed and placed a low shot into the right corner to complete the comeback.
Zimbabwe could not respond before the final whistle, as Egypt secured all three points with almost the last kick of the game.
