Mohamed Salah: Big decision made about 2024 Olympics
Liverpool is “90 per cent sure” that Mohamed Salah will be part of their pre-season training. This comes after a significant decision regarding his participation in the 2024 Olympic Games.
Salah’s Situation:
- Wanted by Egypt: Salah is highly valued by the Egyptian national team for the upcoming Olympics in Paris.
- Liverpool’s Stance: The Premier League club is reluctant to release him, as they did for the 2020 Tokyo Games. They are not required to let him go since the Olympics are not a FIFA-mandated event.
Current Status:
- Liverpool Echo Report: The club believes they will keep Salah for pre-season. The Egyptian team is also starting to accept that he won’t be available for the Olympics.
Pre-Season Plans:
- Training in the U.S.: Salah is expected to join Liverpool for their pre-season tour in the United States, with matches against Real Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
Looking Ahead:
- Friendlies and Premier League: Salah might also play in a friendly against Sevilla at Anfield before the Premier League season begins on August 11, with Liverpool facing newly-promoted Ipswich.
- Transfer Window: The summer transfer window closes on September 2, and Liverpool seems to be keeping hold of Salah despite interest from Saudi Arabia. Salah has scored 211 goals in 349 appearances for Liverpool.
