Morocco secured their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup win vs South Korea in their second group H game vs South Korea on Sunday July 30.
Ibtissam Jraidi match winner was Morocco’s first World Cup goal, a sixth-minute header as the North Africans won to boost their chases of an historic knockout round spot at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Morocco, ranked 72nd in the world, stunned their 17th-ranked opponents, South Korea in what was an improved performance compared to their opening day loss.
Also Morocco defender Nouhaila Benzina made history when she featured wearing an hijab.
In their post match comments, the history-setting Moroccan ladies hailed their collective effort which has yielded it’s first fruit in their first FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance.
“We are just so pleased our efforts have paid off. This victory is for Morocco and Arabs, it’s the fruit of our hard work,” said Jraidi.
For South Korea, they have now lost consecutive 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup matches and will be eliminated if Germany avoid defeat against Colombia later today.
