Moses Simon in Line for New Ligue 1 ‘Top Passeur’ Badge

Nigeria international Moses Simon is set to be one of the first players to receive a new badge introduced by the organisers of Ligue 1.

The ‘Top Passeur’ badge has been created to recognise the league’s top assist provider. Ligue 1 organisers, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), confirmed the new honour on Wednesday, February 5. It extends last season’s badge system, which rewards the top scorer in the league.

Currently, Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé holds the leading goalscorer badge, with 14 goals in 20 matches. He is closely followed by Olympique Marseille’s Mason Greenwood (13 goals) and Lille’s Jonathan David (12 goals).

The ‘Top Passeur’ badge will be worn by Ligue 1’s best assist provider. The first player to receive the badge is PSG’s Joao Neves, who has registered six assists in 16 appearances this season.

Moses Simon, who plays for Nantes, is in strong competition for the award. The Super Eagles winger has also provided six assists in 18 league matches. He is currently level with Neves (who has played fewer games) and Strasbourg’s Dilane Bakwa. A strong performance in his next match could see Simon take the lead and become the second player to wear the new badge.

Simon has been an important player for Nantes this season, contributing to 11 league goals with five goals and six assists. He has scored against Saint-Étienne, Rennes, Lens, Montpellier, and Auxerre, and his assists have come against Brest, Lyon, Lens, Nice, Angers, and Reims.

As Nantes face high-flying Brest this weekend, Simon will have another chance to increase his assists tally and potentially take the lead in the race for the ‘Top Passeur’ badge.
