Moses Simon Scores on Return, But Nantes Fall to Le Havre
Super Eagles forward Moses Simon returned from international duty with a goal, but it was not enough to stop FC Nantes from losing 3-2 to Le Havre in a Ligue 1 match on Sunday.
The defeat came just days after Nigeria’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where Simon and his teammates failed to secure an important win.
The 29-year-old winger has been a key player for Nigeria in the qualification campaign and continued his fine form for his club.
Simon scored in the 49th minute after receiving a well-timed pass from Matthis Abline inside the box. He kept his cool and slotted the ball past Le Havre’s goalkeeper to make it 2-2.
However, Nantes’ hopes were short-lived as Le Havre regained the lead moments later. In the 89th minute, Timothee Pembele reacted quickly to a rebound and tapped the ball into an empty net, sealing a 3-2 victory for the hosts.
Despite their efforts, Nantes could not find another goal before the final whistle.
The match was an exciting contest, with both teams showing attacking intent. Nantes had earlier equalised through a header from Saidou Sow, while Abdoulaye Toure put Le Havre ahead with a first-half penalty.
Simon’s goal gave Nantes hope, but it was not enough to earn them a point. The team will now shift focus to improving their performances as they aim to climb up the Ligue 1 table.
