Mourinho Takes Subtle Swipe at Osimhen After Fenerbahce Win

Fenerbahce manager José Mourinho appeared to aim a subtle dig at Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen after his side secured a solid 3-1 win over Sivasspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.

Goals from Anderson Talisca and a second-half double from Dušan Tadić gave Fenerbahce their 22nd league victory of the season, keeping them firmly in the title race.

Mourinho’s top striker, Youssef En-Nesyri, who joined from Sevilla in the summer, came off the bench for the final 10 minutes, replacing Edin Džeko.

Though the Moroccan forward has not scored recently, he still leads Fenerbahce’s scoring chart this season with 26 goals in all competitions, including 16 in the league.

Speaking after the match, Mourinho defended En-Nesyri’s form and seemed to take a swipe at Osimhen by pointing out that none of En-Nesyri’s goals came from the penalty spot, while six of Osimhen’s 21 league goals were penalties.

Mourinho's Surgery: Fenerbahce boss stays cool

“About En-Nesyri… He was scoring for fun,” Mourinho said, as reported by GZT.

“He has scored 26 goals without taking penalties. He went through a difficult period during Ramadan, but now he is regaining his strength. He showed he is back. He will be very important for us in the last seven matches.”

Victor Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray last summer, remains top scorer in the league with 21 goals and has been key to their title charge.

Mourinho also explained that En-Nesyri had started on the bench in recent games to help him recover properly after fasting during Ramadan.

With Galatasaray on 74 points and Fenerbahce close behind on 71, the Super Lig title race remains very tight. Mourinho’s comments may add more fire to the rivalry between the two Istanbul clubs as the season heads into its final stretch.
