‘ Musa is my assistant ‘- Peseiro speaks of Super Eagles captain’s importance ahead of AFCON final
Nigeria’s head coach, Jose Peseiro, has expressed his deep admiration for Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa as the team prepares to face Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Despite not having featured in any of Nigeria’s matches in the tournament so far, Musa’s influence off the pitch has not gone unnoticed by Peseiro.
The Super Eagles’ skipper, Musa, has remained on the sidelines throughout the competition, with PAOK defender William Troost-Ekong leading the team onto the field as captain.
However, Peseiro emphasized Musa’s significance within the squad, acknowledging his role as more than just a player.
The Sivasspor forward has been described as an indispensable asset, offering essential insights and support to the team, akin to that of a coach.
“Ahmed Musa is special and important to the team,” Peseiro remarked during his pre-match press conference. “He is my assistant. He advises me, and he gives me the necessary support. He is committed in his role, and he can play. We will have to wait and see tomorrow, but we want to win the AFCON for Musa to lift the trophy.”
Despite not featuring on the field, Musa’s leadership and contributions behind the scenes have played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s journey to the AFCON final. With the Super Eagles aiming to secure their fourth continental title, Peseiro and the team are determined to lift the trophy in honor of their influential captain.
Nigeria have previously won the AFCON trophy in 1980, 1994, and 2013.
A victory over Cote d’Ivoire in the final would see them add another prestigious title to their illustrious footballing history.
