Mutiu Adepoju Advises Chelle on Best Formation for Nigeria to Beat Rwanda
Former Nigeria national team star, Mutiu Adepoju has advised new head coach Eric Chelle on the formation he believes will help Super Eagles beat Rwanda in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda on Friday in Kigali, and Adepoju has urged Chelle to stick with a familiar system instead of trying a new tactical approach.
Chelle, who recently took charge of the team, is known for using a diamond formation in midfield, which he successfully applied with Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations. But Adepoju thinks it is risky to introduce such a system now.
“A system like that will be a little bit strange to the players and the fans as well,” Adepoju told Afrik-Foot.
He added, “The system we are used to is playing from the wings, having the ball all the time, and using players that can attack from wide areas. It might take time for the players to understand something new.”
“I think the coach just needs to use a formation that the players know well so they can perform better in this important game.”
Nigeria has only managed three points from four matches in the World Cup qualifiers so far. Chelle now faces two must-win games
