Nadal cruises through to third round of Australian Open on Day Four as Coric, Gauff stumble

World number two, Rafael Nadal defeated unseeded Nigerian-born American, Michael Mmoh in straight sets 6-1 6-4 6-2 to progress to the third round of the 2021 Australian Open.

Daniil Medvedev defeated Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena 6-2 7-5 6-1 to book his place in the third round of the Australian Open on Thursday.

9th seed Matteo Berrettini defeated Tomas Machac 6-3 6-2 4-6 6-3 to qualify for the third round of this year’s Australian Open.

Borna Coric was stunned by America’s Mackenzie McDonald 6-4 6-2 4-6 6-4 in four sets as the American dumped Coric out of the tournament.

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to the third round after he beat Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-7 6-4 6-1 6-7 6-4 on Thursday.

In the women’s event, teenage sensation Coco Gauff was knocked out by Elina Svitolina in the second round 6-4 6-3 to end her tournament.

Jessica Pegula claimed another big scalp as she knocked out Samantha Stosur in straight sets 6-0 6-1 to progress to the third round of the competition.

America’s world number 4, Sofia Kenin was knocked out by Estonian Kaia Kanepi 6-3 6-2 as she lost her place in this year’s Australian Open.

World number 1, Ashleigh Barty defeated Daria Gavrilova 6-1 7-6 to progress to the third round of the competition.
