Naija Super 8: Remo stars defeat Lobi Stars to reach final
Remo Stars Sports Club have booked a place in the final match of the Naija Super 8 tournament with a 2-1 semi-final win over Lobi Stars FC on Friday July 14.
The first semi-final game took place at at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos state by 2pm.
Remo Stars took the lead in the 24th minute of play when Dela Akorli scored with a perfect touch to James Isaac’s cross into the opposition area.
Joseph Atule and Samad Kadiri came close to equalizing for Lobi Stars FC but a combination of goalkeeper Kayode Bankole and ill luck ensured they went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
The Sky Blues doubled their lead few second into the second half when skipper Nduka Junior headed home from a Sodiq Ismail free-kick.
Lobi Stars were gifted opportunity to get back into the game from the spot after the Referee awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the Remo Stars penalty area in the 61st minute.
Joseph Atule stepped up to score the penalty kick to halve the deficit with 29-minutes of action to go.
Remo Stars Sports Club held on to seal a 2-1 semi-final win and book a place in Sunday’s final where they will face the winner of the other last-4 game between Akwa United FC and Sporting Lagos FC.
